Insight Racing selected for $2Million Grand Challenge race.
Special Demonstration available Saturday.

A fully autonomous ground vehicle (Drives without human intervention)
will be demonstrated by Insight Racing on Saturday June 11th at the
Butner Research facility in Butner, NC at 10:00 AM.

Three years in development, this autonomous vehicle has recently been
chosen as one of forty out a field of 200, to participate in the Grand
Challenge.

The Grand Challenge is a race of fully autonomous ground vehicles to be
conducted in the Mojave Desert on October 8, 2005. The Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA), race sponsor, is offering a $2 million
prize to the vehicle that completes the course the fastest within a
10-hour period. The intent of the Grand Challenge is to encourage
participation in robotics R&D by nontraditional individuals and
organizations outside the Military/Defense procurement sector who may
offer new, innovative ways of thinking that lead to scientific or
technological breakthroughs.

Earlier this year, Insight Technologies became the first team in the
nation to successfully complete the Alpha Course at the Joint Unmanned
Systems Test Experimentation and Research (JOUSTER) Site at Virginia
International Raceway. The 2.5 mile Alpha Course consisted of dirt
roads, numerous winding turns, mud, and man made obstacles.
