Abstract:
In an attempt to automate part of melanoma diagnosis, we need to
find correspondences between lesions of two images taken over
time. We formalize this problem as point matching problem with
quantified lesion properties and outliers. Then we propose an EM
framework to solve this problem. The main challenge is the
existence of outliers. Proposed contributions include introducing
more robust metrics than L2-norm based metrics into the framework,
integrating subset sampling method that draws a subset with
smaller proportion of outliers into the framework in various ways
and utilizing the information collected from residuals between of
matched lesion patterns. In addition, we propose the problem of
extracting lesions from skin images and the statistics and other
information we may collect from real data.
