NCMD Update - January 18, 2006 ________________________________

January 25th CED Tech Forum co-hosted with NCMD to explore Electronic
Medical Records

Many hospitals and physician's offices have taken to the digital world
of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). Pressure from insurance
companies and federal regulations along with the promise of both
clinical and financial benefits ensure the trend towards a "paperless"
system will continue. Many current medical devices lack integration
with EMR systems and manually entering or scanning information is a
time consuming and risky solution. This presents a challenge for
medical device developers to easily and automatically integrate
patient data with the EMR. This forum will discuss the possibilities
for device integration and offer perspectives from multiple points of
view.

Join us for a round table discussion organized and moderated by
SunTech Medical's Kenny Andersen with industry experts including
SunTech Medical CEO Dayn McBee, InfoStrength CEO Rita Geiger, Blue
Ridge Family Physician William D. Lee, A4 Health Systems CTO Stephen
M. Ura, and NCHICA Executive Director W. Holt Anderson.

This event is sponsored by Grant Thornton and Noro-Moseley Partners.
The discussion is followed by a networking reception sponsored by
Venture Counsel. ________________________________

NC IDEA Grants Program to focus on InfoTech, Medical Device, and
Material Science companies

NC IDEA, a private non-profit organization dedicated to helping
establish and develop early-stage companies through commercialization
of research innovation, is launching the NC IDEA Grants Program to
help companies bridge the gap between idea and private equity funding.

NC IDEA plans to award $150,000 in "proof of concept" grants, with a
maximum of $50,000 per company, in April 2006. North Carolina-based
companies focused on information technology, medical devices or
material sciences are invited to apply, with preference given to those
that have not received equity financing.
