Many life science companies are started as spin-outs or technology
transfers from academic institutions by the scientists involved in the
basic invention or technology. These scientists have innovative ideas
that could shape our future for generations to come. But how can they
ensure that obstacles in the business community won't bring their
product or innovation to a halt? We'll discuss many of the challenges
they face at the April Biotech Forum.
Topics that we'll discuss include:
How to launch the company from a legal and corporate structure perspective
How to write a business plan, seek out seed funding, and present a
plan in a way that VCs and Angel investors would normally expect
How to turn the scientific finding into a viable commercial, revenue
generating product or service
Which markets to focus a product on and how to turn scientific
enthusiasm into a focused business effort
How to attract those who do have the missing skill sets including
finance, legal, marketing, sales, and management expertise
How to hand over the reins to others--successfully make the eventual
transition from interim or initial CEO or VP to scientific leader
Speakers Include:
Moderator: Merrill M. Mason, Partner, Smith Anderson Blount Dorsett
Mitchell & Jernigan LLP
Jeff Clark, Managing General Partner, The Aurora Funds Inc.
Michael P. Murphy, President & CEO, Gentris Corporation
Cedric Pearce, CEO, Mycosynthetix Inc.
