SAS PROC SQL or Vanilla Flavor
Abstract:
SQL is a language that is used in several relational database software
systems. The basics of SQL extend to most of these packages and are known
as ANSI (American National Standards Institute). SAS® PROC SQL has the
ANSI standards in addition to several of the SAS statements and functions
that are particular to SAS/BASE. Some of these statements and
functions are not widely used maybe because there are not enough
publications showing advantages for programming, computer optimization and
correct implementation. This paper assumes basic knowledge of SAS PROC
SQL, and describes some features of the procedure that make this procedure
particularly useful and can improve plain vanilla SAS PROC SQL.
Bio:
Cecilia is a graduate of the MS program in Biostatistics from UNC Chapel
Hill. Cecilia has been programming for over 20 years, 20 in SAS and 13 in
the clinical trials environment. She is always looking for ways of making
programs/systems more robust and efficient. She just joined the Abraxis
BioScience team where she is a Senior Statistical programmer.
What you Didn't Know about the SAS/Enhanced Editor
Abstract:
Often, coders find themselves using the same procedures or sequence of
procedures over and over again. It would be very useful to create a
"shell" of a procedure or program that can be used to cut down on
repetitive typing. (For example, to submit the generic code "proc
print;run;"). This presentation will show how to create/edit/use SAS
abbreviations to quickly interject code into the Enhanced Editor window in
SAS for Windows. The same method will be explored to quickly inject coding
hints, and other methods to reduce time in coding.
Bio:
Elizabeth Ceranowski currently manages Student Programs for SAS. In this
role, Elizabeth encourages students at all levels of higher education to
use SAS in their research and coursework. Elizabeth joined SAS in 2003 as
a Technical Training Specialist, teaching SAS Programming and Business
Intelligence courses. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from
Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga.; a master's degree in mathematics with an
emphasis in computer science from Texas Tech University and she performed
two years of additional graduate work at the University of Louisiana,
Lafayette in computer science. Prior to joining SAS, Elizabeth worked at
Nortel Networks for more than five years as a software designer and then
at Quintiles Transnational as a SAS programmer. Elizabeth is certified as
a Base and Advanced SAS Certified Professional.
