Topic: Challenges in Managing Multiple Bio-manufacturing Projects

Development of Biologicals poses significantly different challenges,
both in technological and project management terms, when compared to
small molecules. Regulatory requirements for Chemistry Manufacturing and
Controls (CMC) aspect of development of biologicals drive decision
making during product development. In addition, Project Management of
the CMC aspects at a Contract Manufacturing Organization and a
multi-product facility presents interesting problems. Dr. Advant will
compare and contrast regulatory expectations and manufacturing aspects
of a biological drug versus a small molecule.

Speaker: Dr. Sid Advant: Director of Project Management and Business Alliances, Diosynth Biotechnology. 

Siddharth J. Advant, Ph.D. is Director for Project Management & Business
Alliances at Diosynth Biotechnology located in Research Triangle Park,
NC. He has also held positions as Director, Technology Transfer &
Clinical Operations, and Director, Pharmaceutical Sciences & Stability
within Diosynth, during which his groups have been involved in the
development of over 30 protein drugs in various stages of clinical
trials & licensure. Prior to joining Diosynth, Sid Advant worked at
BioReliance (MD) and Protein Design Labs (CA).

Sid has been an active American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
(AAPS) volunteer for more than 12 years, and currently serves on the
AAPS Finance Committee. His past roles within AAPS include Chair of the
2004 AAPS National Biotechnology Meeting and Chair of the Biotechnology
Section. Sid serves on the editorial advisory board of BioProcess
International; is a founding member of CMC Strategy Forum Planning
Committee (FDA-Industry forum that addresses CMC issues for
biotechnology products), and serves as the co-chair for the 2007 Well
Characterized Biological Products Meeting.

Sid received his B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Poona, India,
and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of Connecticut.
