See http://www.newsobserver.com/1595/story/664603.html for details.

To help the pharmaceutical industry combat drug counterfeiting, IBM is
launching an electronic pedigree system Thursday that tracks medications
through the supply chain until they reach consumers.

A new law requiring that the pedigree be attached to aany mediciation
distributed in the state goes into effect in 2009 in California.

There is a requirement for drug pedigress in an FDA regulation. However,
implementation of that requirement has been stayed by a court
injunction. See http://www.rfidupdate.com/articles/index.php?id=1260

SupplyScape, Sun, and Acsis are also solution vendors.
