Representing more than 50% of the world's population, Asia and Japan are
exciting growth areas for medical device companies. While these countries
hold great potential for the industry, they also present unique challenges,
especially for small, entrepreneurial companies. What should an emerging
company consider before entering the Asian or Japanese marketplace?

At the MedTech Forum on October 17, Greg Davis, an experienced medical
device executive who lived and worked in Asia and Japan for five years, will
share his thoughts and insights on conducting business in the region. Greg
was managing director of Guidant's cardiovascular business in 13 Asian
countries from 2001 to 2004, and president of Guidant Japan, a $225 million
business from 2005 – 2006.

Highlights of Davis' presentation include:

   - *Intellectual Property*
      - Can your IP be protected in India and China?
      - Are IP laws & enforcement changing throughout the region?
   - *First in Human Testing & Clinical Trials*
      - Which countries are better for first in human testing?
      - Lessons learned from conducting clinical trials in Asia &
      Japan
   - *Regulatory Approvals*
      - Which Asian countries have voluntary regulatory approval
      processes?
      - How Japan's lengthy regulatory process impacts patients
   - *Reimbursement & Pricing*
      - How does lack of government reimbursement and private
      insurance impact pricing?
      - What steps is the Japanese government taking to reduce medical
      device prices?
   - *Manufacturing & Distribution*
      - The role of China in medical device manufacturing
      - Information on establishing a distribution channel for your
      product or service
   - *Physician customers and Patients*
      - Are physician expectations different in Asia and Japan?
      - How are medical procedures impacted when patients pay out of
      their own pocket?
