Good Morning,
Thanks to all who attended the Eastern North Carolina SWE kickoff
meeting in September. We had a great turnout for a picnic at Umstead
Park.
Our next section meeting will be held on Thursday October 18^th at 6:30
pm. Please join us for an insightful presentation by Teresa Helmlinger
Ratcliff, PhD, PE on "Women Engineers from the 1970's Perspective".
Dr. Ratcliff is the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of
NC State University's Industrial Extension Service. The Industrial
Extension Service marshals university, state, and federal resources to
meet innovation enhancements, process improvements, technology transfer
and the professional development needs of small and medium industries.
Prior to joining the administration of NCSU, Dr. Ratcliff had a 20-year
career with Carolina Power & Light Co., spanning 11 jobs, primarily in
the distribution and customer service functions of the company. Her
final position with CP&L was as Director of the Commercial/Industrial
Market Development Department. Dr. Ratcliff holds her bachelor's degree
in engineering from NCSU, an MBA from Duke University, where she was
named a Fuqua Scholar, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from NCSU.
Among the numerous positions and honors she has held, the most
distinguishing is as the past-president (2003-2004) of the National
Society of Professional Engineers, the first female in the Society's
68-year history to hold the position of president.
We will meet in the main conference room at Dewberry. Dewberry is a
multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm located on Rexwoods Drive
near Lake Boone Trail (see attached map for directions). The main
conference room is located on the second floor of 2301 Rexwoods Drive,
Suite 200, Raleigh NC 27607-3366 . Dinner will be provided. Please
invite a friend.
Thanks to Dewberry and Dr. Ratcliff for making this event possible!
