Hello everyone! I wanted to take a minute to remind you that we're
hosting an event this Saturday, November 17, that focuses on a topic of
considerable interest to local technical writers and editors . . .
offshoring of technical communication jobs. Food and coffee will be
provided by TEK Systems, and door prizes will be awarded.
After some time for networking, the following speakers will present:
Emily Toone (CEO, TPS) – Emily will provide a bird’s eye view of
offshoring over the past four years. She'll explain how she found a way
to work with companies after they decided to send their work offshore (and
in some cases, bring it back) and what the impact has been to the writers
and editors that work for her company. She'll also talk about the quality
of work from offshore writers and how it has changed over the years.
Anjela Dukes (Senior Technical Writer, EMC) – Anjela currently works
closely with an offshore group. Her unique perspective from the trenches
will convey how she has changed her mindset to make her project and her
group successful.
Andy Roth (Director, Engineering Services, Tekelec) – As a Director who
manages a large documentation group, Andy will present on the end-to-end
offshore experience of both management and individual contributors. He
will also discuss how Tekelec worked with the writers “left standing” to
help them strengthen their job security.
Michael Harvey (Statistical Writer, SAS Institute) – Michael will try to
tie the three previous threads together. He'll provide some eye-opening
data and suggest concrete ways you can best adapt to the offshoring trend.

I hope you are able to join us at this event. I’m sure you will find it
interesting and informative.
