BAID & AMC-Combined Clusters Network Meeting
Featuring: Learn about the LAAMScience, Inc. development of light
activated antimicrobial technology and future applications in hospital
environments
Imagine a world where disease is stopped before it causes an infection…
December 5, 2007
Location: RDU (Raleigh Durham Airport) Authority Building
Room 100 A & B
RDU Airport, Raleigh, NC
8:00am – 9:30am
We invite you to participate in this information and networking
session on December 5.
This Combined Cluster meeting will offer a presentation by
LAAMScience, Inc. whose mission is to reduce the chance of infectious
diseases, including seasonal outbreaks and hospital-acquired epidemics
and pandemics by integrating light activated antiviral and
antibacterial coatings onto the surface of textile and hard surface
(e.g., wood, metal) products. Potential application areas include
personal protective respirator masks; home, business, and
transportation air filtration systems; and hospital masks, gowns,
drapes, and furniture.
The company is focused on the commercialization of a novel coating
invented by professors at NCSU and Emory University that, when exposed
to visible light, inactivates virtually all viruses and certain
bacteria. The coating has been shown, for example, to inactivate 99.9%
of influenza viruses, and 99.99% of vaccinia virus and produces
significant kills of staph and MRSA bacteria. The technology you will
hear about is similar to photodynamic therapy that is finding use in
treating HIV and various cancers.
