 Support for education and infrastructure development top the Research
Triangle Region's 2008 legislative agenda for business developed by
chambers of commerce and economic development agencies across the
13-county Research Triangle Region.

Around the Region

Registration opens for 2008 State of the Research Triangle Region

Corporate and individual registrations are being accepted for the
Research Triangle Regional Partnership's annual State of the Region
event May 22. The event will update the community on the region's
economic health and competitive position, and report results of the
regional economic development strategy.


Global medical technology company BD expands in Durham
Becton, Dickinson and Co. will invest $135 million to build a new
plant in Wilson County and expand three facilities in Durham, creating
274 jobs. The projects, made possible in part by a state Job
Development Investment Grant, are the latest expansion of the region's
life sciences cluster.

Vance-Granville Community College plans corporate campus at Triangle North Vance
The community college plans to create a new corporate education and
training center on 300 acres at Triangle North Vance, located along
Interstate 85, across from the college's main campus.

 Triangle North Franklin receives access road funding
The N.C. Board of Transportation has approved $500,000 to complete the
funding package to build an access road and turn lanes from U.S.
Highway 401 into the new business park, which has nearly completed its
first shell building.


Moore County job fair connect employers and workers
The second annual Employ Moore Job Fair attracted more than 500 job
seekers and 40 companies to Southern Pines on March 26. Organizers
promoted the wide range of job opportunities located close to home.

RDU-Heathrow nonstop service begins
American Airlines began nonstop service between Raleigh Durham
International Airport and London Heathrow, the world's busiest
international airport, March 29. The move makes RDU one of the
airline's seven gateway cities to Heathrow and its connections to
cities throughout Europe and the Middle East.

 Johnston County forging plant joins Indian-owned Sona Group
 Sona BLW Precision Forge buys three Thyssen-Krupp facilities,
including its plan in Oak Tree Park in Selma, to become the only
precision forging with a presence on three continents.

 New and expanding companies announced more than $817 million in
investments and 8,455 new jobs in the region during 2007.

 Regional economic developers will visit key contacts worldwide in

growth companies converge in Durham April 16-18 for the Council for
Entrepreneurial Development's 25th annual Venture Conference. The
event showcases the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic's most dynamic and
promising business opportunities. It is one of many upcoming events
for regional business people and entrepreneurs.
