The second annual Biothreat Agent Workshop, being held in Chapel Hill, 
NC, is once again bringing together some of the nation’s top scientists 
and responders from academia, government and industry.

Day one of the two day event features an Industry Day, vendors will be 
sharing presentations on the latest products and innovations related to 
biothreat agents. Day two includes presentations by leading researchers 
in the field, followed by a panel discussion. Attendees will have the 
opportunity to exchange ideas and to share their latest developments as 
well as explore the current gaps that exist within biothreat response.

Most major national conferences addressing these issues lack the much 
needed opportunities for a specific focus. This workshop will focus on 
the primary threat of Bacillus. By bringing together those researchers 
that are specifically engaged in biothreat‐ related research and 
innovations in this setting it will not only contribute to the overall 
level of national preparedness but will also allow for networking 
opportunities among those engaged in this vital work. The development of 
technologies that are sensitive, rapid, portable, and capable of rapidly 
detecting, identifying, and decontaminating pathogens will enable first 
responders and public health providers to rapidly detect and identify 
potential biothreats on‐site; improve the capabilities of medical triage 
procedures; and contribute to the efficient diagnosis of infectious 
diseases and genetic disorders. Progress can only occur through focused 
interaction and communication such as this workshop.
