North Carolina Combination Products Meeting
04/09/2009 09:00:00 AM - 04/09/2009 06:00:00 PM
The first North Carolina Combination Products meeting focused on
promoting emerging strengths across the drug, device and biologics
sectors in the State
The traditional turf of the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and device
worlds is rapidly blurring providing new approaches to prevention,
therapy and disease management. This convergence is fueled by strategic
alliances, economic trends and rapidly evolving science. Come and share
your experience in the design, research or development phases of the
science and business of Combination Products.
Combination products have the potential to offer greater benefit than
drugs, devices or biologics on their own. While not new, it is a growing
sector of the industry. The regulatory landscape for these products
continues to evolve as increasingly sophisticated technologies merge.
Drug coated coronary stents were a breakthrough for the field which is
now fast expanding to include absorbable collagen sponge with engineered
proteins, dermal substitutes, inhaled drug products, bone grafting
materials, regenerative cells, wound healing gels and non-coronary
devices with antimicrobial or drug coatings. Future products will
include nanomaterials, sensors and miniaturized implantable combination
products bringing together the engineering, materials,
biotech/pharmaceutical and software companies to co-develop and test
these products.
