Less hiring expected
Survey signals dip in Triangle in '06
Karin Rives, Staff Writer
After a year of robust job growth, many Triangle employers are ready to slam
the brakes on hiring, a new survey suggests.
http://www.newsobserver.com/104/story/377396.html
N&O Business Section: Dec 13, 2005

Manpower's quarterly Employment Outlook Survey indicates that companies in
the Raleigh and Durham areas plan much smaller payroll increases during the
first three months of 2006 than businesses in most other North Carolina
regions. Hiring also will be more sluggish in the Triangle than in the
nation as a whole, the staffing firm reported.

The slowdown comes amid rising concerns about inflation and weaker consumer
spending next year. However, one Manpower official said local businesses are
simply taking a breather after a year of rapid growth.

Thirteen percent of the 60 Triangle employers surveyed expect to boost their
payroll, while 84 percent plan to maintain their current staffing level.
Three percent plan layoffs, the survey found.
