Choir Friends,
My main reason for writing to all of you is to see if you know of anyone
who lives on the south side of Durham who is a Certified Nursing Assistant
and available to hire for four hours a day? Ideally, I'd like someone who
can easily work two hours and then return and work another two hours. If
that is too broken up, we should talk.

My brother has round the clock nursing but the individual nurses cannot
handle his care. He is heavy and the main problem he has at this point is
that he is retaining fluid and cannot participate in his own care. The help
needs to be able to assist the nurses in cleaning and turning him.

Frankly, I don't know that the person would have to be a CNA, just a good
soul willing to help.

Maxim Health Care provides his nurses under contract with Durham VA, but
I've been advised that Bill, my brother, would be better served if he paid
someone not associated with Maxim.

My brother lives in a handicapped accessible apartment at the end of Alston
Avenue where it intersects with Alexander Drive (near RTP and Parkwood)

Long story, but if you can help in any way, give any direction, I'll be
very grateful.

Also, I think debrill training would be great for the choir.

Hi everyone. I'm using the new choir list-serv so I hope it works. If you
don't get this e-mail, please respond (yuc, yuc). Anyway, just a reminder
that we will not have our regular Wednesday evening choir rehearsal this
week. Instead choir rehearsal will be a joint choir rehearsal at
Westminster Presbyterian on Thursday, Oct. 21st from 7:30 to 9:15. If you
have never been to Westminster Pres., from Pilgrim you take a right on
University Drive, go one block and turn left on Old Chapel Hill Road. You
will pass Martin Luther King Pkwy. Westminster is about a quarter mile
later to your left. It is practically on the corner of Old Chapel Hill and
Shannon Road (where the post office is). If you have not taken your music
with you, I will bring all the folders with me to the rehearsal.

On Saturday morning, from 10:00 to 12:30, we will have a full dress
rehearsal at Westminster. I just rehearsed with the brass quintet this
afternoon and am optimistic that this concert will be a positive experience.
Concert dress is black pants (or skirt) and white shirt/blouse. We'll
probably meet Sunday at 3:30 for a 4:00 program.

Lastly, just a reminder that choir will not officially sing next Sunday
morning, Oct. 24th, but if you attend worship, you will not only enjoy a
fine sermon preached by Mark Williams or Brent, but also hear Colin Laursen
(an extraordinary 10 or 11 year old violinist). Everything sounded great
this morning.
-Scott

Monica has requested that we should warm up on Sunday at 3:15 instead of
3:30 (sounds reasonable). Also, it was decided that men should wear bow
ties instead of neck ties for concert dress. If you do not have a bow tie,
there should be some extras that others will bring. I've seen Bob Shaw
where a few so Bob (or anyone else), if you have extra black bow tie, please
bring it Sunday. Thanks.

<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Hello Chancel Choir!
<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; When you arrive for tonight's rehearsal, please be prepared for the possibility that Westminster's parking lots may be fuller than usual.&nbsp;&nbsp; There is a special pre-school event going on tonight in addition to our rehearsal involving the 2 other choirs, so please be patient &amp;, if needed, park in the post office lot across the street.&nbsp;&nbsp; You may want to arrive a bit early in case getting situated takes extra time.&nbsp;&nbsp;Tonight is our first chance to work with members of the 2 other church choirs, so it's an important rehearsal &amp; I'm hoping for great attendance!
<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The schedule for concert weekend is as follows:
<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; --Saturday's rehearsal is in the sanctuary from 10 a.m. until 12:30.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please note that the brass quintet will already be rehearsing when you arrive, so please enter quietly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Coffee/snacks will be available in the kitchen parlor, so you might want to stop there first if you arrive early.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; --It would help me a great deal if each choir member would be responsible for his/her own folder during the entire weekend.&nbsp;&nbsp; This saves me from having to cart folders over en masse; you may want to keep your choir folder(s) in your car beginning after tonight's rehearsal &amp; for the remainder of the weekend.&nbsp;&nbsp;Any extra music, in case you're missing something, will be out on the organ console Saturday morning.&nbsp;&nbsp;(Scott &amp; Brian, please bring your choirs' extra music too because I doubt we'll have a lot of extras; we'll do our best to keep things separated.)
<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; --After Saturday's rehearsal, I'd appreciate some help putting chairs away &amp; generally readying the chancel for Sunday morning worship.&nbsp;&nbsp; No heavy lifting required this time!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the combined choir program today. It
was an unqualified success. For me, the greatest joy were the two combined
rehearsals. The concert was merely icing on the cake. There was a
recording made of the program and if it comes out decent I will make copies
for anyone who would like one. I expect it will be a week or two however
before I can get a copy of it.

No rest for the weary, however. Now we need to prepare new music including
music for our Christmas program. We will resume regular choir rehearsals
this Wednesday at 7:30. Michelle Alexander was unable to schedule a defib
date this Wednesday so we will need to work out another date. The choir
will be singing this Sunday. We will sing "Jesu, Grant Me This I Pray."

The choir will not be singing the first Sunday of November, Nov. 7th.
Instead, I will have the folk choir proviiding the music for that Sunday.
Anyone who would like to sing in the folk choir is invited to attend a
rehearsal this Wednesday from 7:00 to 7:30. The folk choir selection will
have two flutes and piano for accompaniment so it should be every bit as
nice as the last folk choir song.

Hi Scott and everyone:
The concert today sounded wonderful! Wow. While I would much rather have
been singing with you, it was also great to get a more balanced listen to
the program, instead of the soprano section perspective. I heard things in
some of the songs that I had never noticed before. Great job everyone!

And Scott, we'll have to do this again so I can sing.

See everyone Wednesday. I'm assuming I'll have my voice back by then.

Barbara

The conversation afterward was all about "let's do this again". So, let's!

Just as a reminder, and for those who were not at last Wednesday's
rehearsal, we will rehearse at 9:45 this Sunday to do a little polishing (or
woodshedding as the case may be).

Also, due to my being out of town for Thanksgiving, we will not rehearse
next Wednesday nor sing at next Sunday's (11/28) worship service.

-Scott
