SHELDON L. MCALPIN
Middle Eastern Province Polemarch
Dear Middle Eastern Province Board of Directors and Brothers All:
I would like to first thank all of you for making the 2003 C. Roger
Wilson Leadership Conference held at North Carolina Central University
on October 4, a great success. I feel with all of your help we had a
very successful and information packed leadership conference. The C.
Roger Wilson Leadership Conference is a very important event for us as
it helps us as chapters and brothers to kick off our fraternity year
with a lot of useful information. So I want to say thank you to the
Middle Eastern Province Board of Directors, the Alpha Kappa, Iota Xi,
Theta Omicron, Durham Alumni Chapters, and Brother Joseph K. Davis,
Middle Eastern Province C. Roger Wilson chairman. I also want to give a
special thanks to Brother Harold Bass Province Sr. Vice Polemarch,
Brother Fred Black, Durham Alumni, Brother Bernard Reeves, Province
Reporter, and all the facilitators that helped with C. Roger Wilson and
the whole Middle Eastern Province for all the hard work that was put in
to making our 2003 C. Roger Wilson Leadership Conference a success.
As I have mentioned earlier I intend to keep the Board of Directors as
well as the Province as a whole, updated and informed of activities,
changes, and any news that affect the Middle Eastern Province.
I would like to update you all on some of the events and changes that
have been made as the Month of October is coming to a close.
1. October 3, 2003 The Middle Eastern Province Board of Directors
met on the Campus of North Carolina Central University.
2. October 4, 2003 The Middle Eastern Province held our 2003 C.
Roger Wilson Leadership Conference on the Campus of North Carolina
Central University, hosted by the Alpha Kappa Chapter, Iota Xi Chapter,
Theta Omicron Chapter, and Durham Alumni Chapter.
3. On September 27, 2003 the Grand Board of Directors voted to
Grant Wake Forest University a charter to operate a chapter, which has
been designated as the Omicron Sigma Chapter. There will be a charter
ceremony set for a later date this fall, the province as a whole will be
notified as of when this ceremony will take place.
4. On October 6, 2003 I received a letter from an Attorney
representing the Playboy cooperation, as a result of that letter, all
chapters that have any use of the playboy bunny logo, please discontinue
use of this logo. This goes for any flyers, posters, leaflets,
websites, and all related things to Kappa. If this is not complied
with, your chapter will be placed on immediate cease and desist.
5. On October 7, the Kappa Xi Chapter (North Carolina State
University) was placed on cease and desist. They will remain on cease
and desist, until a formal investigation has been conducted, and as a
result of that investigation, a decision will be determine as to the
status of the chapter.
6. October 9-12 Grand Chapter had its annual Province Polemarchs,
Sr. Vice Polemarchs, and Jr. Vice Polemarchs Conference in Philadelphia,
PA. Myself, Sheldon L. McAlpin, Sr. Vice Polemarch Harold Bass, and Jr.
Vice Polemarch, Kevin Jenkins attended for the Middle Eastern Province.
7. I also got the Chance to visit the Gastonia/Shelby Alumni
Chapter, they had a great chapter meeting for the Month of October, and
the meeting was presided by Chapter Polemarch, Calvin Reeves.
8. On October 15, 2003 I appointed brother Jeffery Roberts of the
Smithfield (NC) Alumni Chapter as the Middle Eastern Province Guide
Right Chairman
9. Just as a reminder On November 14 - 16, 2003 the Middle Eastern
Province will be conducting our fall Intake Cluster, in Charlotte, NC.
10. Also as a reminder, our Province IT Chairman, Brother Crawford
Lane, Jr. is setting up a secured email list for our Chat with the Grand
Polemarch in December, if you or your chapter have not made contact with
Brother Lane about this matter please do so, as soon as possible.
Also I would like to wish all my brothers in the Middle Eastern Province
that have celebrated a birthday in the month of October, a very Happy
Birthday and many more to come.
In the near future you will be hearing more about my trip to
Philadelphia, and some of the things that I came away with from that
weekend. Again I want to say thank you for all you support to the
Middle Eastern Province, and me. I would like to ask that all Chapter
Polemarchs and Brothers that receive this letter to pass it on to all
brothers in you chapters, whether it be through email, hard copies, or
just reading it in your chapter meeting. It is important that all
brothers of the Middle Eastern Province be kept abreast of what is going
on in our Province. Also, look forward to updates on our Province as
the year progresses.
Yours in the Bond
Sheldon L. McAlpin
