By now, you have learned of the passing of Past Grand Polemarch & Laurel
Wreath Wearer Ernest H. Davenport. To be certain, Past Grand Polemarch
Davenport was a legend within Kappa Alpha Psi and a model of excellence for
many of us. He was truly a man of stature who never allowed his achievements
to overshadow his basic demeanor.
The particulars for his funeral service are -
* Plymouth Congregational Church [ North Capital Street & Missouri
Avenue NE, Washington, DC]
* Visitation: 9:30AM
* Kappa Memorial Service: 10:30AM
* Official Funeral Service: 11:00AM
Brothers planning to attend the service should assemble in the parking lot
adjacent to the church no later than 10:15AM. Past Eastern Province
Polemarch Anthony Hill and members of the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter
will be at the site to assist you. The group will leave the parking lot
promptly at 10:25AM so that we can enter the church and start the ceremony
on time. Past Grand Polemarch Davenport was a member of several
organizations and we cannot infringe upon any special tributes these
organizations may want to pay to him.
The dress code for the day is -
* Official Kappa Blazer
* White Shirt
* Official Kappa Tie
* Black Trousers
* Black Shoes
Brothers who do not have access to the official attire should wear dark
suits with a sedate, preferably, red tie. You should also wear an official
Kappa badge and life membership pin. Province [and Past Province] Polemarchs
may wear the official Province Polemarch Pin in lieu of the official badge.
Elder Watson Diggs and Guy Levis Grant Awardees should also wear their
medallions. Non-life members may wear an official coat of arms pin on their
lapels. You should avoid wearing other pins [including Province Life
Membership pins, Foundation Club pins, etc]. You should cover the bottom
half of any pin affixed to your lapel with black tape or black cloth.
Following the official ceremony, we will sit as a group in a reserved
section at the church. It is my understanding this section consists of three
rows but could easily expand based on the attendance. Please arrange your
schedule to attend the entire service which should last approximately 75
minutes. The enshrinement of the body will be in September at the Arlington
National Cemetery.
The Davenport family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, you send an
appropriate donation to the Morris Brown College in memory of Ernest H.
Davenport. Past Grand Polemarch Davenport was one of its most decorated
alumni. You should contact Gloria Neal, Manager of Donor Services,
404-739-1025 / Gloria.neal at morrisbrown.edu
<mailto:Gloria.neal at morrisbrown.edu> for information.
After the service, there will be no activities at the Kappa Kastle. Rather,
brothers should assemble for a photograph in the parking lot adjacent to the
church. You should also expect to spend a few moments at any reception
planned by the church.
Take care and I look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday.
Please forward this email message to each brother in your address book as
soon as possible.
Yours in the Bond,
Terrance G. Blount, CLU, ChFC
Past Grand Keeper of Records and Exchequer
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc
