To RTPnet and TACT lists:
We have great new software on RTPnet for managing electronic discussions:
Mailman, for e-mail lists
see http://www.rtpnet.org/rtpnet/lists/ for instructions and
http://www.rtpnet.org/mailman/listinfo for examples, such as
http://www.rtpnet.org/mailman/listinfo/rtpnet-list and
http://www.rtpnet.org/mailman/listinfo/rtpnet-tact
phpBB, for Web-based discussion forums
see http://www.rtpnet.org/rtpnet/forums/ for instructions and
http://www.rtpnet.org/phpBB2/ for examples
Both are easy to use, have lots of options (particularly addressing
privacy issues), and provide your organization with terrific
tools for communicating with members, potential members, and the public.
Mailman is MUCH easier to use than Majordomo. Everything can be done from
Web pages and the instructions are very good.
For help deciding whether you want lists, forums, or both for your
organization and for general information about each and how they work, see
"E-Mail List or Web-Based Forum?" at
http://www.rtpnet.org/rtpnet/list-or-forum.shtml
If you would like to convert an existing e-mail list or forum to use
the new software, send e-mail to me -- hallman@rtpnet.org (or
info@rtpnet.org).
If you have suggestions for improving the instructions, please let me
know.
Thanks to Charles Hall <Charles.Hall@sas.com>,
Mark Smith <w4chl@mindspring.com>, and
Tom Brown <tab@signalgrp.com>,
for great help getting us started with these new services.
