To RTPnet list:

Here's a quick update on the status of RTPnet VISTAs.

-- VISTAs though the CTC VISTA program (UMASS Boston) will now cost RTPnet
approximately $4,000 each, roughly the membership fees of 70 members for
one year. We need more members!!! Do you know of any noncommericial
organizations that need an ad-free Web site or e-mail list? See
http://www.rtpnet.org/membership/ for membership benefits.

-- We would like to hire two VISTAs to start in August (paperwork will
probably be due in June). If you know of anyone who is interested in
working for RTPnet as an Americorps*VISTA, please let me know.

  1. Work with Duke University, Rogers Herr Middle School, and RTPnet to
continue and expand the after-school computer training program (CLICK).
Duke will probably fund this VISTA.

  2. Work with RTPnet to develop and implement the CTC LinkUp project,
http://www.rtpnet.org/linkup/, focusing on Chapel Hill-Carrboro community
technology centers. This VISTA would be funded in part by a grant from The
Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill (see the grant proposal at
http://www.rtpnet.org/gather/proposals/cofthec/ ).

For more description of these proposed projects, see
http://www.cpcs.umb.edu/VISTA/RTP.html .

-- Douglas Dumont, who developed the CLICK training program with others
from Duke, will complete his year of service in June, returning to school
to study Biomedical Engineering as a graduate student at Duke. Current
plans are for him to participate in a panel on schools and CTCs and to
participate in the Share Fair at the CTCNet conference in DC in June.
Douglas will also present his VISTA work on CLICK at the RTPnet conference
May 30 in Chapel Hill (see http://www.rtpnet.org/rtpconf/ )

-- Martha Moore and Ella Holden have both extended their service through
August. Martha's project is to promote community participation in the
Birchwood Learning Center in Durham and Ella teaches computer classes at
the Riley Hill Community Technology Center in Wendell.
