NOMINATIONS DUE BY SEPTEMBER 10, 2003


The Education Technology Think Tank or ET3 (http://www.et3online.org/), a
collaborative of business, civic and government sector representatives
committed to harnessing technology and telecommunications for economic and
educational empowerment of traditionally underserved communities, has asked
CTCNet (www.ctcnet.org) to identify nominees for an exciting new national
award for community technology leaders.

Winners of this First Annual ET3 TEC Champion award for Outstanding
Community Technology Leaders will be honored on September 26th, 2003 at a
ceremony in Washington, DC at the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)
Legislative Conference and its Education Braintrust meeting. The awards will
be conferred by Congressman Major Owens (D-NY), Chair of the CBC's Education
Braintrust. Each year, the CBC Conference and its Education Braintrust draw
over 20,000 of the most influential African American leaders from education,
government, the private sector and community-based organizations. These
leaders seek to chart a course that will improve the future economic and
educational conditions and outcomes of our nation.

Though we have had very little time to develop and promote this first award
and awards ceremony, CTCNet wanted to seize this opportunity to honor
leaders in the field of community technology who are influencing the future
of their communities, their nation and the world. We intend to honor thirty
individuals on an annual basis with our Outstanding Community Technology
Leader Award, and in future years will have far more time to promote the
award, receive nominations, etc. As such, there will be other opportunities
to nominate others (or yourself!).

For this year, we are reaching out through our network and asking you to
nominate effective leaders for the Outstanding Community Technology Leader
Award by filling out the nomination form
(http://ctcnet.org/outstanding/nomination_form.php). You may also nominate
yourself. Award winners will represent a broad range of cultural, racial and
economic backgrounds, ages, interests, and academic and work experience, but
all must have demonstrated sustained excellence while managing, working in
or volunteering in a community technology center (CTC) or community
technology program(s).

We must receive nomination forms by no later than noon EST on Wednesday,
September 10th -- in other words, very soon. Again, we apologize for this
year's extremely short turnaround time but hope you will consider nominating
qualified individuals or yourself. Because we expect that most award winners
will be unable to attend the ceremony in person, we will be asking winners
to fill out and return an Awardee Information Form
(http://ctcnet.org/outstanding/awardee_info_form.php), as well as a digital
photo, so we can display each winner's name, organization, city or town,
photo and a quote in a presentation given during the awards ceremony.
Furthermore, we will ask honorees to appoint a representative to accept the
awards on their behalf and will mail plaques to any awardees who are unable
to attend the ceremony.
