The 7th  Annual African-American Celebration: “A Legacy of  Pride” 
February  19, 2005 
11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
Herbert  C. Young Community  Center 
101 Wilkinson  Ave 
(N. Academy St. &  Chapel Hill Rd.,  Cary, NC) 
For the past seven years,  The Ujima Group, Inc. has hosted an African 
American Cultural Celebration in  February. The festival is a free,  daylong public 
event highlighting the contributions of African Americans to  world history. 
It builds awareness of African American history and  culture through 
demonstrations, hands-on activities, storytelling, performances,  workshops, and ethnic 
foods. This year’s event will focus on highlighting the power of the musical 
tradition as  practiced by African people in the Diaspora 
Although new  components are added each year, some recurring features of the 
festival  include: 
A Music Stage plays host to a variety of  regional entertainers whose 
performances pay homage to the legacy of African  Americans to musical history. 
Featured performers are Perfect Vision Gospel  group, Abdullah B. Rahman Jazz 
ensemble, 
Jam Rock Reggae group, Carnavalito Latin  Jazz band.  The children’s village  
allows children’s of all ages enjoy the hands-on activities that enable them  
to experience African American culture and history first-hand. The area is  
filled with information booths from African American historical and cultural  
sites across the state and visitors are encouraged to participate and  
patronized the vendors.
