Hi David Hinton,

My name is Anthony Gachie and I'm a volunteer trying to maintain a
computer lab at Pines Community Center in Chapel Hill, (PCC)consisting
of eight donated computers working off a router hooked to a hi speed
connection.

About five years ago, Owing to the efforts of Judy Hallman, RTPNet
volunteers generously helped wire PCC for a network. The low-income
neighborhood kids have had a great time using the facility. Adults have
also been using the lab to learn how to use computers and check email.
This lab has been instrumental in revitalising the neighborhood and
giving kids a venue to do homework among other academically related
things. A lot of learning has transpired as a result of this simple
establishment.

Now, however, most of the computers are really old and despite my best
efforts, I'm having trouble keeping them up and running. Currently only
one is able to crawl on the internet.

My question: Is there any chance we could get a donation of computers
that will at least go online? I'm desperate because I don't want to lose
our clientele of kids who might be tempted to indulge in less productive
persuits in idle time. If we could just get our hands on eight computers
(or fewer if you can't get eight), it would be greatly appreciated.
Please help.

Anthony.

Subject: Re: [rtpnet-tact] Win98 Licenses

Warren,

I left you a voice mail. We will check to see if we have any
re-deployable Win 98 licenses. Are the MAR licenses to expensive? We
have some MAR licenses and some OEM licenses.

We also have 50-75 PC's that are below our specs. (most are P1's). Can
your friend use more computers?

I would like to invite you to visit our shop. Are there other ways
that we could work together?

Does anyone out there have any left over, unused or replaced

       OEM
licenses that come with a new computer as they are not
       redeployable. A
friend of mine is trying to get authorized licenses to be
       able to place
them on old clunker PCs to send to schools in Central
       America.
