For those of you refurbishing computers --
I thought you'd want to know about this conference and discussion group.
The conference is in San Francisco on January 9th & 10th. As I remember,
last year they put conference materials on a CD and sold it for a small
amount.

The discussion group is at http://groups.google.com/group/refurbishers

Sorry for any cross posting, but I want to make sure that everyone knows
about the upcoming 3rd Annual North-American Computer Refurbisher Summit
(NCRS 2006) we are co-organizing in San Francisco on January 9th & 10th.
It's coming up in just a few weeks!

Register and find conference details at:
http://www.pcsforschools.org/ncrs

This will be a great opportunity for you to meet folks working in
programs like yours and to find about the best practices of top computer
refurbishers. Representatives of leading refurbishers from the US and
Canada will be present, and our keynote speaker will be Congressman Mike
Thompson, a leading advocate for computer recycling policy.

The conference will focus on furthering the work we've already started
to create standards for refurbishing programs. The standards we hope to
finalize will address crucial elements such as warranty, fail rate,
end-of-life disposal, export, and data removal for refurbished
computers.

We need your voice in these discussions!

We've scheduled demonstrations on laptop repair and OS imaging and have
added a great session on 'creating a tech support program within a
refurbishing program'. Also join Greg Sampson of Earth Protection
Services for a first look at his step-by-step manual on CPU & Monitor
Demanufacturing. We've also lined up speakers from the foremost
environmental groups in North America, and will have sessions on
refurbishing for schools and also speakers able to provide us with the
big picture view of our field.

We still have room for more attendees. This conference is appropriate
for both you and your staff members or volunteers. The registration cost
for attendees is $150 per person.

To register, go to http://www.pcsforschools.org/ncrs/register.html
or call 1-800-939-6000

For payment by credit card, speak with a representative at the time of
phone registration.

For payment by check, please make your check payable to:

Computers for Schools Foundation
Attn: Willie Cade
3642 N. Springfield Ave.
Chicago, IL 60618

We've reserved hotel accommodations at the La Quinta Inn Downtown San
Francisco. You can reach them directly at 888-673-4711 or 415-673-4711
or ageorge at crescenthosp.com. Just mention that you are an attendee of
the North-American Computer Refurbisher Summit to receive the $75 per
night promotional rate. We have this rate available starting January 7th
in case you'd like to come to San Francisco for the weekend.

Only the NCRS Conference brings the knowledge, innovation, and
leadership of the computer refurbishing industry together in one place
at one time, so don't miss this opportunity to meet and share knowledge
with the industry leaders.
