Greetings, collective wisdom!

I would like to start scanning our collection of student newspapers.  The run starts in the early 60's and with the exception of a few brittle issues the paper is in pretty good condition.  The issue sizes run the gamut, from 8.5x11 to tabloid to full-sized newspaper.

I welcome any advice you might have regarding scanners and scanning methodology.  My preliminary research suggests that large format flatbed scanners are expensive and hard to come by.   We have been doing digitization projects for years but this is the first one where we've needed to deal with oversized materials.
