Call for Papers: J-SNCA special issue on finding aid usability

Journal for the Society of North Carolina Archivists

Volume 8, Number 1 (Winter 2010)

J-SNCA is a semiannual journal that seeks to support the theoretical,
practical, and scholarly aspects of the archival professions.
Contributors to J-SNCA have included both senior and junior members of
the profession as well as archival educators, independent researchers,
and students. J-SNCA (ISSN 1945-8533) is indexed and electronically
distributed via EBSCOhost(r).

The editorial board of J-SNCA invites all members of the archival
community to submit articles for our Winter 2010 themed issue. We are
looking for articles that explore and analyze the archivist's role in
meeting user needs through finding aids and other tools. This special
issue is based on a session at the 2010 meeting of SNCA entitled "What
is this document?," which explored the definition of archival finding
aids today. We welcome thought pieces, case studies, practical
experiences, student papers, literature reviews, and conference
presentations.

Possible topics include:

- Finding aid usability and design

- User studies of online finding aids

- Analyzing statistics (reading room and/or online) to improve
access to archival material

- Imagining the future of the "reading room"

- Studies of interactive finding aids (chat, comments, links,
et cetera)

- Rethinking archival description

Abstract deadline: May 3, 2010.

Submission deadline: June 1, 2010.

Please direct submissions and questions to Nancy Kaiser,
nkaiser at email.unc.edu.
