DEADLINE EXTENDED
TRAVELING ARCHIVIST PROGRAM ASSISTS
NORTH CAROLINA'S CULTURAL HERITAGE INSTITUTUIONS
The Traveling Archivist Program (TAP) is a pilot project to help cultural and heritage institutions care for their archives, papers, and records at risk of deterioration. Developed by the North Carolina State Historical Records Advisory Board and the North Carolina State Archives, the TAP provides hands-on assistance to institutions that preserve North Carolina's history and culture.
Organizations must apply for assistance through an application process. Institutions chosen to participate in this program will receive an onsite visit, a collections assessment, recommendations for managing and caring for the collections, training and instructions, and other resources including some basic preservation supplies.
The application and instructions <http://www.history.ncdcr.gov/SHRAB/documents/travelingarchivist_cycle2.doc> are available online on the SHRAB Web site, http://www.history.ncdcr.gov/SHRAB/default.htm and the North Carolina State Archives Web site, http://www.archives.ncdcr.gov<http://www.archives.ncdcr.gov/>. The application is open to all North Carolina cultural and heritage institutions that house and maintain active historical collections, and whose collections are accessible to the public; however, federal agencies and those institutions housing solely objects or artifacts are ineligible to apply. The deadline for this application has been extended to May 7, 2010.
Questions relating to the application process may be addressed to Andrea Gabriel, North Carolina State Archives, 919-807-7326, andrea.gabriel at ncdcr.gov<mailto:andrea.gabriel at ncdcr.gov> , Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
