Description of Work

This is a re-posting. All previous applicants are still being
considered and need not re-apply. This banded position is at the
Advanced Level (pending official classification approval). Imaging
Unit Supervisor in Collections Management Branch oversees all
processing, duplication, quality control testing of microfilm, source
document and preservation imaging of records to archival standards.
Oversees intellectual control of all permanent microfilm collections,
including accessioning, maintenance of tracking databases, and
physical control of security vaults and their environmental conditions.
Serves as agency's chief consultant on technical matters related to
micrographics and conversion of digital images to microfilm. Oversees
and maintains equipment used for preservation and source document
imaging and the conversion of digital images to microfilm. Consults on
records retention issues involving imaging of public records.
Position serves as member of section's disaster response team and is
primary responder for after- hours emergencies involving the security
microfilm vaults.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires thorough knowledge of micrographic processes, including
duplication, processing, creation, chemistry, and quality assurance.
Knowledge of records and information management principles as they
relate to imaging and digital reformatting, preservation and
conservation, application and use of micrographics and imaging systems.
Ability to evaluate and prioritize projects and ensure their
completion by others. Ability to perform all aspects of human
resources management required as a supervisor. Thorough knowledge of
the public records laws of North Carolina. Ability to cooperate and
communicate with members of the staff, state and local officials, and
vendors. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Ability to use database software packages for tracking orders, reports,
and to maintain intellectual control of holdings. Strong attention to
detail and accuracy required for all processes and procedures carried
out by unit.

Training and Experience Requirements

BACHELORS DEGREE IN HISTORY, PUBLIC HISTORY, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, OR
A RELATED SOCIAL SCIENCE & ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE IN ARCHIVAL OR RECORDS
MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE."MANAGEMENT PREFERS A MASTER'S DEGREE IN HISTORY, PUBLIC
HISTORY, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, LIBRARY SCIENCE, OR A RELATED SOCIAL
SCIENCE DISCIPLINE." Degrees must be from appropriately accredited
institutions.
