Workshop on Conducting Collections Inventories and Building Partnerships
to Attract Visitors

The Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies invites staff and
volunteers of historical organizations, libraries with special
collections, and other cultural organizations to its spring workshops,
"Inventory Ins and Outs, and Building Partnerships to Attract Visitors."

According to the American Association of Museums, museums (and other
cultural organizations) must know what artifacts they have, know what
they need, and know where their artifacts are stored. Conducting regular
inventories is an important means to achieving these goals. During
"Inventory Ins and Outs," you will learn about different types of
collections inventories; gain strategies and tips for inventorying your
collection; and collect resources to help you with your own inventory.
You will also learn how to appropriately tag and mark items with
artifact identification numbers and will practice these skills during a
hands-on object marking activity. Terri Hudgins, registrar for the Cape
Fear Museum of History and Science, will lead this session.

During the "Building Partnerships" session, Millie Barbee, CEO of High
Country Host, and Angie Chandler, executive director of the Blue Ridge
National Heritage Area, will explore heritage tourism and how to build
partnerships with other organizations to attract more visitors to your
site.

The workshops run from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and will be held on
Wednesday, May 4, in Asheville and Wednesday, May 18, in Pittsboro.
Registration costs $20 for Federation members, $25 for non-members, and
$18 for undergraduate or graduate students. Please visit
www.fnchs.org/fund/fund.htm for a registration form or call (919)
807-7395 for more information.
