ATT Volunteers,

So far I have only had confirmation from 4 volunteers for the upcoming
workday on June 5th. I know it is not optimal trail work weather but we
could really use some more help. All I can offer other than the sense of
accomplishment that you receive from helping to complete the trail is the
following:

1. REI will be providing snacks.

2. You get to sleep an extra hour... We're not starting until 9:00 A.M.

3. We're calling it quits at 1:00 P.M.

4. If we know you're coming (i.e. RSVP) you will be the proud owner of a
free National Trails Day T-Shirt.

Thanks,

Subject: National Trails Day REI/TRTC Workday - Saturday June 5th.

ATT Volunteers,

Recreational Equipment Inc., better known as just REI, has chosen to
support TRTC with the construction of the American Tobacco Trail as a part
of National Trails Day 2004. As part of their sponsorship they will be
organizing a joint REI/TRTC workday on Saturday June 5th.

REI will be providing hopefully lots of volunteers who are new to trail
work but willing to donate time and energy to our cause. TRTC will need to
supply the guidance and leadership and probably some of the "heavier"
equipment that the REI volunteers won't have. It would also be nice to have
a good showing of TRTC folks there to work alongside the new volunteers to
show them the way.

Our main focus for this workday will be to finish what we have started
earlier in the season in Chatham County. This mostly involves hauling and
dumping logs that have already been cut. We may also be burning some brush
if Frank hasn't gotten it all burned by June 5th. We won't be doing any
more ditch clearing but we may be taking out a few remaining "leaner" trees
and anything we missed earlier. Tasks may also include trash cleanup at
some newly discovered sites.

We will focus mainly on the "war zone" between O'Kelly and Pittard Sears
Rd. We will have vehicle access by this date to at least one end of this
section. If we have enough volunteers both TRTC and REI I would like to
send crews to work North of New Hope Church and also north of O'Kelly.

WHAT WE NEED

Since we won't know how many new volunteers we will have until the last
minute I would like to be prepared to handle as many of the above tasks as
possible. Here is a list of what we will need:

1) Crew leaders to lead the above tasks. If you've worked on the trail
before you're qualified!

2) 3-5 pickup trucks that we can haul logs with.

3) 2-3 chainsaws.

PLEASE RSVP!

Please RSVP as soon as you can commit to the date. Please also indicate if
you are bringing a chain saw or pickup truck or are willing to lead a crew.
I will need this head and equipment count in order to effectively plan the
work crews. I will send out the details to those who RSVP the week before
the workday.

I am looking forward to seeing you on June 5th.

Happy Trails,
