Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
Due to Triangle Rails-to-Trails Conservancy participation in Earth Day
Celebrations in Durham and at Harris Lake Park in Wake County, we will
not have a workday in Chatham County tomorrow, Saturday, April 23.
We'll also be off next Saturday, April 30 because it is the fifth Saturday.
We hope you'll get out to any one of these events, or several others
that are happening in the Triangle, and celebrate Earth Day.
I just heard on the radio this morning that when Earth Day was started
back in 1970, it was a call to action. That is, it was designed as a day
for folks to get out, work and get their hands dirty to protect and help
the environment. While I feel a bit embarrassed that we aren't doing our
regular work day this year, I'm heartened by the fact that almost every
weekend is Earth Day for us when we work on the American Tobacco Trail.
We do Earth Day activism in our regular workdays almost EVERY weekend!
For that all you can be proud. */Thank you/* for your great work in the
past months and years. Because of you, over 6.5 miles of trail is open
for use by the citizens of this area, that would not be open at all.
Our next work day will be Saturday, May 7 at 9 AM at Scott King Road
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM>. We really need to spread
some gravel that day, and I'm sure there will be other projects to work
on as well.
