Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This is a reminder of the American Tobacco Trail workday this Saturday,
August 27. We'll be meeting at the O'Kelly Chapel Road Trailhead
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 AM.
*Saturday, August 27 at 9 AM* is our Chatham County ATT Workday at
O'Kelly Chapel Road <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM>
approximately 2 miles east of NC 751.
Bill Bussey, Curt Devereux, Frank Bennett and perhaps others will be
leading the group doing some trimming in the area around the trailhead
and on the trail south of nearby Pittard Sears Road. If time permits,
we'll do some clearing around the Panther Creek bridge as well. We'll
hopefully be installing some new signage in this area as well.
Loppers and small hand saws are especially needed for this kind of work.
Please bring loppers, hand saws or the like if you have them. We could
also use a couple of string trimmers if you have them and feel
comfortable bringing them and using them.
We'll have a couple of loppers, and saws, so if you don't have them,
come anyway. Depending on the group, we may do some work requiring
shovels as well.
Bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, clothing appropriate for the
weather, water and a snack if you like.
I strongly suggest wearing long pants because we will be getting into
some brush and briars. But that is up to you.
We can also use a pickup or fairly high clearance vehicle, to haul brush
and/or work from in lopping off overhanging limbs. If you have one and
don't mind driving it down the trail, please bring it.
We'll probably work till about noon or so. If it is raining badly or all
over the area, or the forecast is for such, we'll cancel this workday.
Feel free to call Bill Bussey at 919 545-9104, as late as 8 a.m., to
verify a go or no go. However, if you aren't comfortable with the
forecast, use your best judgment and join us or not as you prefer.
Please let Curt Devereux <mailto:devereux at gte.net>919 544-3948 Frank
Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 know if you have any questions.
We'd like to thank the staff from Bronto Software <http://bronto.com/>
for their excellent volunteer work last Saturday. We had about a dozen
Bronto staff, plus others from the Volunteer Center of Durham
<http://www.thevolunteercenter.org/> who have been helping out a lot on
the ATT this summer. Check out the photos at the TRTC website.
