Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday, *Saturday,
January 28*, on the American Tobacco Trail at the Fayetteville Road
Trailhead <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.
Please join us, Saturday, January 28 at 9 a.m. at the Fayetteville Road
trailhead <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> in Durham
County. Our main focus will be to continue construction of the roof for
our information pavillion structure at the parking area. The frame of
this structure was constructed a couple of weeks back TRTC volunteers.
We'll continue their excellent work!
Last week our workday and exercise in roof building was cut short by
rains that came earlier than predicted. It isn't a good idea to run a
generator and 110 volt circular saw in the rain! However, we did make
some progress in getting at least a few of the roof panels cut. Now
we'll position them and screw them into place and go from there.
We'll also be clearing and moving brush around this trail parking area
which is currently under construction by TRTC. One or more groups may be
heading down to the trail to pick up trash, remove brush and empty trail
trash cans. We'll have a group from the National Charity League on
Saturday, who will take the lead with this.
As always weather may be rainy on Saturday. If so, we will have a
limited workday that would end before noon, or none at all. Please use
your best judgment to determine if you want to be working outside in
rainy conditions.
While the main focus will be putting the roof on the structure -
including cutting metal roof panels, mounting the panels and drilling
holes and attaching them, we'll have other clearing brush things to do
as well.
If you have a battery powered electric drill, we'll probably be able to
use it. Batteries for drills won't last long drilling into heavy steel,
so we'll need all we can get.
We can often use loppers if you have them. If you have a hand saw and
feel comfortable using it, please bring them along. However, we mainly
need folks to drag brush around.
We also could use a wheelbarrow or garden cart, if you have a means to
haul it.
Bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, clothing appropriate for the
weather, water and a snack if you like.* *
We'll probably work till about noon or so. If it is raining badly or all
over the area, or the forecast is for such, we'll cancel this workday.
Feel free to call Bill Bussey at 919 545-9104, as late as 8 a.m., to
verify a go or no go. However, if you aren't comfortable with the
forecast, use your best judgment and join us or not as you prefer.
Please let Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or
Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 know if you have any
