HI Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,

This message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday,
this* **Saturday, June 10*, on the American Tobacco Trail at the
Fayetteville Road Parking Area
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.

Please join us,* Saturday, June 10* at 9 a.m. at the Fayetteville Road
Parking Area <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM>in Wake
County. Scroll down the web page to find the directions.

Also note, that if you arrive after 9:10 or so, the work group may have
hiked down or up the trail. Walk on down to the trail and look south or
north. The group may still be in sight.

Our main focus will be to do any needed clearing and maintenance on the
trail as well as this traihead. We need to mow the grass and do some
general cleaning up of the trailhead, and the area around it.

Frank Bennett will be leading this workday as I'll be out of town.

Last week, twenty volunteers, including a great group from the National
Charity League braved questionable weather and cleaned up a major junk
dump alongside the trail in Chatham County. It was a great success and a
great way to spend National Trails Day.

Bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, clothing appropriate for the
weather, water and a snack if you like.* *Be prepared for ticks and
poison ivy. Ticks are especially bad this year. We've had success using
Permethrin (available at most drugstores and outdoor retailers) sprayed
on cuffs and waistbands on clothing. We suggest long pants and even
light long sleeves. You will need to sign a waiver and participation list..

While you don't have to bring any tools because we'll mainly need
"haulers and toters", we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to
bring them.

Feel free to bring a small hand pruning saw if you like. Loppers are
always needed as well. Also, a wheelbarrow is always handy if you can
haul it to the site.

We can use a small push mower or string trimmer if you have one as well.

We'll work till about noon or so.

If it is rainy or worse on Saturday, we will have a limited workday that
would end before noon. Or we may have none at all. Please use your best
judgment to determine if you want to be working outside in rainy
conditions. However, I plan on working at least a little if it is
anything short of a widespread hard rain. Feel free to call Frank
Bennett at 919-851-3992, as late as 8 a.m., to verify a go or no go.
However, if you aren't comfortable with the forecast, use your best
judgment and join us or not as you prefer.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.

Please let Curt Devereux <mailto:devereux at gte.net> 919 919 544-3948
Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 know if you have any questions.
