HI Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,

This very, very late message is to remind you of our American Tobacco
Trail workday, tomorrow, *Saturday, June 24*, on the American Tobacco
Trail at the White Oak Church Road Parking Area
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.

Please join us,* Saturday, June 24* at 9 a.m. at the White Oak Church
Road Parking Area <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM>in Wake
County. Scroll down the web page to find the directions.

We'll be working on the trail around and north of Green Level Church
Road. If you arrive after about 9:15 or so, please turn right as you
exit the parking area. Go approximately 2/3 mile north to the
intersection of White Oak Church Road and Green Level Church Road. Turn
right onto Green Level Church Road. Go approximately 1/2 mile or so to
the first left, which is Farrell Road. Turn left onto Farrell Road and
park on the shoulder just north of the intersection. You'll hopefully
see our vehicles here.

Our main focus will be to do the final clearing and cleaning of this
next phase of the Wake County portion of the ATT of brush, downed trees,
overhanging branches, and remaining trash.

Also, we'll be clearing and cleaning the adjoining drainage ditches and
trail itself on this section of the trail that is hoped to be under
construction this summer.

Bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, clothing appropriate for the
weather, water and a snack if you like.* *Be prepared for ticks and
poison ivy. Ticks are especially bad this year. We've had success using
Permethrin (available at most drugstores and outdoor retailers) sprayed
on cuffs and waistbands on clothing. We suggest long pants and even
light long sleeves. You will need to sign a waiver and participation list..

While you don't have to bring any tools because we'll mainly need
"haulers and toters", we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to
bring them.

Feel free to bring a small hand pruning saw if you like. Loppers are
always needed as well. Also, a wheelbarrow is always handy if you can
haul it to the site.

We will be doing some chainsaw work on Saturday. For the safety of all,
we separate the chainsawyers and their small assistance crews from
everyone else. If you have a chainsaw, are trained or know how to use
it, and have full protective gear including helmet, eye protection,
hearing protection, chaps and appropriate boots, feel free to bring it.

We can use a small push mower or string trimmer if you have one as well.

We'll work till about noon or so.

With the weather of today and earlier, conditions on the trail may be
sketchy. If it is rainy or worse on Saturday, we will have a limited
workday that would end before noon. Or we may have none at all. Please
use your best judgment to determine if you want to be working outside in
rainy conditions. However, I plan on working at least a little if it is
anything short of a widespread hard rain. Feel free to call Bill Bussey
at 919 545-9104 or Frank Bennett at 919-851-3992, as late as 8 a.m., to
verify a go or no go. However, if you aren't comfortable with the
forecast, use your best judgment and join us or not as you prefer.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.

Please let Curt Devereux <mailto:devereux at gte.net> 919 919 544-3948
Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 know if you have any questions.

*Important Note for Trail Users!!*

*The ATT in Wake County was significantly damaged in several places with
the weather and floods of earlier this week.* There are several washed
out areas where the trail may be hard to traverse.

Other portions of the ATT in Durham and Chatham may also have been
damaged. Please let me <mailto:billbus at gte.net>know if you see any
particularly badly damaged areas on the ATT between Massey Chapel Road
and the Northeast Creek trestle, and from the Northeast Creek Trestle to
New Hope Church Road.

Many other greenways and trails in the area have similar damage. Cary
greenways were especially hard hit. Many may be closed for an indefinite
period

Please be very careful when using the ATT and other area trails for the
next few weeks. Take your time and watch for unexpected washouts, fallen
limbs, or other hazards. Be patient with staff who may be cleaning and
repairing this damage. If you can, please drag/toss at least one limb or
other debris off the trail when you are using it.
