Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,

This message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday,
tomorrow, *Saturday, October 28*, on the American Tobacco Trail at
the Fayetteville Road Trailhead
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.

Please join us,* Saturday, October 28* at 9 a.m. at the Fayetteville
Road Trailhead <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> in
southern Durham about 3/4 mile south of Southpoint Mall. Scroll down the
web page to find the directions .

 >From Exit 276 on I-40, go south toward Southpoint Mall, pass
Southpoint Mall on your right, go about 3/4 mile (1 mile from I-40) The
parking area is on the driveway on the right IMMEDIATELY before the
cement bridge. If you cross the cement bridge and the entrance of
Chancellor's Ridge, you've gone too far.

Our plan is to install some new water bars and corrective measures to
limit future severe erosion which occurred on the connecting path down
to the trail early in September. We've already done some work on this,
but want to add more preventative measures.

Depending on the group, we'll also head over to the Massey Chapel Road
crossing to do some clearing and work on a traffic control device on the
future trail north of Massey Chapel.

Thanks to those who made it out last weekend the Wake/Chatham line
workday. Thanks to about 60 daughters and fathers from the National
Charity League, we made major headway in removing a lot of brush and
logs from the trail in this area. A great job was had and done by all
who participated. Thank you!

As always, bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, clothing appropriate
for the weather, water and a snack if you like.* *We always suggest long
pants and even light long sleeves. You will need to sign a waiver and
participation list..

While you don't have to bring any tools because we'll mainly need
"haulers and toters", we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to
bring them.

If you have a pointed shovel, or a blade style mattock, please bring
it/them.

We always can use loppers at this workday and all workdays. If you have
a small hand pruning saw please bring it.

Also, a wheelbarrow is always handy if you can haul it to the site.

We'll work till about noon or so.

Right now, the forecast is calling for rain until at least mid morning
on Saturday. If it is rainy or worse on Saturday, we will have a limited
workday that would end before noon. Or we may have none at all. Please
use your best judgment to determine if you want to be working outside in
rainy conditions.

However, I plan on working at least a little if it is anything short of
a widespread hard rain. Feel free to call Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 or Frank Bennett
<mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 as late as 8 a.m., to verify a
go or no go. However, if you aren't comfortable with the forecast, use
your best judgment and join us or not as you prefer.

Please let Curt Devereux <mailto:devereux at gte.net> 919 919 544-3948
Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 know if you have any questions.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.

*Again, THANK YOU for all of your support for this petition and the ATT.*

One more bit of news. The final phase of the ATT in Wake County, from
the White Oak Church Road Parking area north to the Chatham County line,
is *NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION.* It is almost complete, with the traffic
control gates now being installed. Many of you on this list have helped
clear and clean this section. *Thank YOU! *

Wake is still anticipating an opening by the end of this month. However
as always be careful around the construction and continuing maintenance
which is still happening in Wake and other places on the ATT.

Thanks for your help and support in building the American Tobacco Trail.

Happy Trails,

Bill Bussey
