Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday,
*Saturday, November 4, *on the American Tobacco Trail at
the Fayetteville Road Trailhead
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.
Please join us,* Saturday, November 4* at 9 a.m. at the Fayetteville
Road Trailhead <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> in
southern Durham about 3/4 mile south of Southpoint Mall. Scroll down the
web page to find the directions .
>From Exit 276 on I-40, go south toward Southpoint Mall, pass
Southpoint Mall on your right, go about 3/4 mile (1 mile from I-40) The
parking area is on the driveway on the right IMMEDIATELY before the
cement bridge. If you cross the cement bridge and the entrance of
Chancellor's Ridge, you've gone too far.
Our plan is to clean out the drainage culverts and ditch north of
Fayetteville Road as well as do some preventative maintenance on
drainage in this area.
Thanks to those who made it out the workday last weekend. Volunteers
from the National Charity League, joined several TRTC volunteers to
install a water bar at the parking area as well as do some cleaning,
clearing and hauling on the future ATT at Massey Chapel Road. We got
messy by hauling out some old junk and trash along the future trail in
the area. On Sunday, a group of REI new hires got */really/* messy by
doing some drainage and clearing work on the ATT in Chatham County. We
made a lot of progress which was appreciated by numerous trail users
that day. A great job was had and done by all who participated in both
workdays. Thank you!
As always, bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, clothing appropriate
for the weather, water and a snack if you like.* *We always suggest long
pants and even light long sleeves. You will need to sign a waiver and
participation list..
While you don't have to bring any tools because we'll mainly need
"haulers and toters", we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to
bring them.
If you have a pointed shovel, or a blade style mattock, please bring
it/them.
We always can use loppers at this workday and all workdays. If you have
a small hand pruning saw please bring it.
Also, a wheelbarrow is always handy if you can haul it to the site.
We'll work till about noon or so.
If it is rainy or worse on Saturday, we will have a limited workday that
would end before noon. Or we may have none at all. Please use your best
judgment to determine if you want to be working outside in rainy
conditions.
Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 will be leading
this workday since I'll be out of town. Feel free to call Frank
<mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 as late as 8 a.m., to verify a
go or no go. However, if you aren't comfortable with the forecast, use
your best judgment and join us or not as you prefer.
Please let Curt Devereux <mailto:devereux at gte.net> 919 919 544-3948
Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 know if you have any questions.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.
*Also, we are looking for few older pickup trucks* to haul brush and
logs on the ATT for several projects we have. If you have an old pickup
truck that you don't mind getting a bit messy, please contact Bill
Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104
