Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday,
this *Saturday, February 24** *In place of our usual workday, we'll be
volunteering with the Carolina Godiva Track Club to help with their
Coach Bubba Race <http://www.coachbubba.com/> which uses the American
Tobacco Trail for a significant portion of the 20 km and 4 mile races.
The race organizers plan to make a donation to TRTC for improving the
American Tobacco Trail from race donations and proceeds.
Meet in front of the Mellow Mushroom Restaurant at 410 Blackwell Street
on the ATT (south) side of the American Tobacco Campus.* *
Please join us,* Saturday, February 24* at *7:30 a.m.* or earlier to
help with the Coach Bubba Race <http://www.coachbubba.com/> at the
Mellow Mushroom Restaurant at 410 Blackwell Street on the ATT (south)
side of the American Tobacco Campus.* *Those that volunteer will get a
neat race cap, plus food and drink!
*Here is the scoop. *Race organizers need several folks to help with
early race day set up. Those will need to arrive at the Mellow Mushroom
by *5:30 a.m*. Yaaawn Patrol! Most others are needed at 7:30 a.m. to
help with the race itself, mainly finish line and post race clean up.
*If you can help out with either of these, please email or call *Bill
Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 *NOW* so I can let them
know you are helping out, and you can be assured of getting a hat and
other volunteer goodies. Please let me know if you'll be arriving at
5:30 or 7:30. Please let me know if you have any questions.
This should be a lot of fun.The weather should be great! We help the
Carolina Tarwheels <http://www.tarwheels.org/> in their BikeFest ride
every September and have a great time! This Coach Bubba Race
<http://www.coachbubba.com/> helps several good causes should be no
different. Hope you can join us!
Again, please email or call Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919
545-9104 *NOW *if you can help this weekend.

Last Weekend...
*We had a great time and made a lot of progress at this past Saturdays'
workday where we cleaned and cleared the construction materials, logs
and brush from our Fayetteville Road Parking Area
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM>.
Thanks to Joan Novak, Paul Novak, Sarah Smith, Kevin Heyer, Charles
Smith, Rebecca Smith, Camden Feldman, Patrick Carter, Colyn Cornell,
Spence Foscue, Dilys BowmanDan the Wan Clever, Dave Connelly, Webmaster
CurtTravelin' Jack Walker James Teske and Frank Bennett for the workday
last Saturday. We moved a LOT of logs, limbs from the front "lawn" of
the parking area as well as hauled away a bunch of construction
materials. Thanks to everyone who helped. This kind of work was sorely
needed at this facility.
Also, this past chilly Friday, youth and staff from the Three springs
School in Chatham County joined Bill Bussey to open up and dig drainage
ditches just north of the Chatham-Wake county line. Those of you who
have been working in this area knows that this is very hard work. The
guys did a great job in making a start on the ditch which will help the
area drain better.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.
Since we'll be working at a race this Saturday, just wear appropriate
clothing and a smile. The race should be over by 10 a.m. with some help
needed till about 11.

*Also, thanks to you we made our goal of at least 25 *MVP cards
registered in the completely free Food Lion MVP Shop and Share program.
We needed at least 25 Food Lion MVP cards registered in this program
because this year 25 is the minimum number needed to participate. We now
have 27 cards registered.* **Thank You for getting us this far!* If you
haven't registered your card please do so, because we'd like to have a
bit more cushion.
In your MS Internet Explorer browser (sorry, Firefox, Mozilla and
Netscape browser users :-( !) go to:
https://www.foodlion.com/IntheCommunity/ShopAndShare/
Here you can go to the appropriate links to register your Food Lion MVP
cards so that the Triangle Rails-to-Trails Conservancy gets some
proceeds from your Food Lion purchases when you use your MVP card. To
find the Triangle Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, click on "Register MVP
Cards." You go to a secure web page. Click "Select Organization." A
"Find Your Organization"window pops up. At the blocks, Select "NC",
"Durham", "Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy." That should bring us
up. Enter your MVP card as instructed. It doesn't cost you a thing! And
it really helps us out !
This has been useful in the past for us because we've gotten
approximately $30 or so from this. Hey, every bit helps! This year we'll
need to get 25 minimum in the program in order to receive any funds
disbursements. * While it looks like we have the 25, every additional
card helps!*
Even if you don't regularly use your MVP card at Food Lion, please
register it, or apply for one, because every registration - used or not
- counts. Once we reach the 25 number, purchases from those that do shop
at Food Lion will count. If we don't get 25, we don't get a check! So
please register your Food Lion MVP card *now* because we need to get to
25; and help build the ATT.
If you need help with this, contact Bill Bussey at 919 545-9104 with
your MVP #, and we'll get it in there.
And let me take this opportunity to* Thank You* for all of your help and
support in building, cleaning and clearing the American Tobacco Trail in
2006 and into 2007. Thanks to your hard work, expertise and diligent
efforts, we are making steady progress. Thousands of trail users are
*now safely using* the sections of the trail and facilities you have
helped clear, clean and build. We get so many wonderful comments and
thanks on how well the trail looks when folks use these facilities.
These trail users are often *amazed* to find out that these improvements
were done completely by volunteers. Thank you for the great work and for
volunteering your valuable time to help with this project. Know that it
wouldn't be possible without the great work of each and every one of you.
Happy Trails,
Bill Bussey
