Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This _very late_
message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday, tomorrow
*Saturday, March 15*, at the Scott King Road Trailhead
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.,
Please join us, *Saturday, March 15 *at 9 a.m. at at the Scott King
Road Trailhead <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9 a.m.*
***
Our goal is to clear any downed trees, limbs, brush and briars from the
trail in this area. Spring is starting to arrive, and we want to make
sure this heavily used section of trail is in good shape. We'll also
sort recycle materials from and empty the trash cans at this trailhead.
There will be plenty to do.
Last week, after a rainy Friday evening and early Saturday morning, i
was the only one to show up at the workday. I inspected the trail
drainage resulting from the recent rains. I always learn something from
these inspections during or shortly after a rain. I also cleared some
downed trees, and inspected the trail north all the way to the Panther
Creek trestle.
As I was heading back to my vehicle, Frank Bennett showed up. We went
for our traditional hamburger at The Loop, then went to Solite Park to
do some finishing work for the ramp that we constructed there last
month. It was a good Saturday!
The weather is supposed to be cloudy and possibly rainy on Saturday
morning. Thus, there is a possibility that this workday may be
postponed. If it is raining, we probably won't do anything. If it is not
raining, we'll probably inspect and do light work on the trail in this
area.
Feel free to contact or call Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net>

aren't comfortable with the forecast, use your
best judgment and join us or not as you prefer. Please dress
appropriately and bring plenty of water!
We'll work till about noon or so.
*Do note* that if you are volunteering for school *Environmental Service
hours*, and you say you will work for 3 hours, you need to be prepared
to work until noon, or a little after because we need to plan for our
work and cleanup of our work. If you need to leave earlier, you need to
let the workday leader know ahead of time. Thanks!
As always, bring work gloves, full shoes or boots, long pants, and other
clothing appropriate for the weather. Bring water and a snack if you
like. Be prepared for briars and ticks because you will be in the woods.
You will need to sign a waiver and participation list.
While you don't have to bring any tools because we do have some tools,
we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to bring them.
If you have some, bring a pair of loppers.
Feel free to bring a small hand pruning saw if you like.
We can always use a pickup truck which you don't mind hauling brush,
logs and trash on the trail, please contact Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 or Frank Bennett
<mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 so we can make plans.
We'll work till about noon, and probably a bit after.

be held at Cary's Thomas Brooks Park on Green Level Church Road. If you

And let me take this opportunity to *Thank You* for all of your help
and support in building, cleaning and clearing the American Tobacco
Trail in 2007. Thanks to your hard work, expertise and
diligent efforts, we are making steady progress.
Thousands of trail
users are *now safely using* the sections of the trail and facilities
you have helped clear, clean and build. We get so many wonderful
comments and thanks on how well the trail looks when folks use these
facilities. These trail users are often *amazed* to find out that these
improvements were done *completely* by volunteers. Thank you for the
great work and for volunteering your valuable time to help with this
project. Know that it wouldn't be possible without the great work of
each and every one of you.
Thanks for your help and support in building the American Tobacco Trail.
Happy Trails,
Bill Bussey
