Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This very late
message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday,
*Saturday, July 26*, at the Fayetteville Road Access
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9:00 a.m. *
*
Please join us for this workday, *Saturday, July 26*, at the
Fayetteville Road Access <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM>
at 9:00 a.m.
Our goal is to clean and clear this parking area as well as clean and
clear the ATT adjacent to it.
We'll also do general trimming of growing briars, low hanging limbs,
maintenance and upkeep, as well as empty our trash can on this heavily
used section of trail.
Last week, Mike Fessler, Eric Fessler, Justin Sanders, Mary Blondy,
Rachael Blondy, Bob Salano, Frank Bennett, and Bill Bussey cut and
trimmed grass and weeds at the intersection of O'kelly Chapel Road. This
trailhead looks much better now. Thanks especially to Mike and Eric for
bringing out their lawnmower and string trimmer. We also moved some
dirt/clay into a former hole or tank trap at this intersection. This was
very hard work! Thanks to the extra effort by everyone on this. And
several of us supervised moving surplus rails from the corridor for
future use. recyclables. Thanks to all for the great work!
At this Saturdays' workday, as always, bring *work gloves, full shoes
or boots, long pants, *and other clothing appropriate for the weather.
I generally wear a lightweight long sleeve shirt to protect against
briars and sun. Bring water and a snack if you like.
Be prepared for briars and ticks because you will be in grass and in the
woods.
The weather can be rainy this time of year. Use your own judgment to
make the call whether you want to attend the workday in sketchy
conditions. We generally do not work in heavy or constant rain.
You will need to sign a waiver and participation list.
While you don't have to bring any tools because we do have some tools,
we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to bring them.
We can use string trimmers for this workday.
If you have a mower of any kind, and care to bring it, please do so.
If you have some, bring a pair of loppers.
If you have a pole saw, please bring it.
Feel free to bring a small hand pruning saw if you like.
We can always use a pickup truck which you don't mind hauling brush,
logs and trash on the trail. Please contact Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 or Frank Bennett
<mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 so we can make plans.
We'll work till about noon, and probably a bit after.
NOTE: If you are planning to volunteer with us at the Tarwheels Bike
Fest on August 9, please contact Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> as
soon as you can so we can make sure we/they have a T-shirt for you.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.
Please let Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or
Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104
know anytime if you have any questions.

Construction of the Chatham County section of the ATT should begin
sometime in late August, with anticipated completion no later than
September of 2009. We hope they get out there sooner and finish sooner!
Stay tuned!
Keep in mind that significant portions of the trail that we maintain and
are heavily used, will be closed during construction. TRTC, Chatham
County, the Town of Cary, the City of Durham, and NCDOT all request
that trail users stay out of the trail construction zones during this time.
You can print out our latest ATT map *right now* at
http://www.triangletrails.org/ATT.HTM . Click on both links under the
thumbnail for both sides of the map.
Don't let the thumbnail fool you. This is our new color ATT map done by
Wayne Horton of Winston-Salem.
And let me take this opportunity to *Thank You* for all of your help
and support in building, cleaning and clearing the American Tobacco
Trail in 2007. Thanks to your hard work, expertise and
diligent efforts, we are making steady progress.
Thousands of trail
users are *now safely using* the sections of the trail and facilities
you have helped clear, clean and build. We get so many wonderful
comments and thanks on how well the trail looks when folks use these
facilities. These trail users are often *amazed* to find out that these
improvements were done *completely* by volunteers. Thank you for the
great work and for volunteering your valuable time to help with this
project. Know that it wouldn't be possible without the great work of
each and every one of you.
Thanks for your help and support in building the American Tobacco Trail.
Happy Trails,
Bill Bussey
