Hi Volunteers for the American Tobacco Trail,
This message is to remind you of our American Tobacco Trail workday,
tomorrow,
*Saturday, October 4*, at the O'Kelly Chapel Road Access
<http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at 9:00 a.m. *
*
Please join us for this workday, *Saturday, October 4*, at the O'Kelly
Chapel Road Access <http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM> at
9:00 a.m.
Our goal is to clean and clear this access as well as clean and clear
the ATT north and south of it.
We'll also do general trimming of growing briars, low hanging limbs,
pick up trash, and do any needed maintenance and upkeep on this section
of trail.
Last week, Chris Baylies, Marcus Cooke, Dilys Bowman, Julia Nan, Frank
Bennett, and Bill Bussey cleared, cut and trimmed trees, weeds and brush
at the Fayetteville Road Trail Access. Thanks to Marcus for bringing his
chainsaw. Thanks to all for the great work!
At this Saturdays' workday, as always, bring *work gloves, full shoes
or boots, long pants, *and other clothing appropriate for the weather.
I generally wear a lightweight long sleeve shirt to protect against
briars and sun. Bring water and a snack if you like.
Be prepared for briars and ticks because you will be in grass and in the
woods.
The weather can be rainy this time of year. Use your own judgment to
make the call whether you want to attend the workday in sketchy
conditions. We generally do not work in heavy or constant rain.
You will need to sign a waiver and participation list.
While you don't have to bring any tools because we do have some tools,
we do have a wish list of tools if you'd like to bring them.
We can use string trimmers for this workday.
If you have a mower of any kind, and care to bring it, please do so.
We could use a leaf blower as well.
If you have some, bring a pair of loppers.
If you have a pole saw, please bring it.
Feel free to bring a small hand pruning saw if you like.
We can always use a pickup truck which you don't mind hauling brush,
logs and trash on the trail. Please contact Bill Bussey
<mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104 or Frank Bennett
<mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 so we can make plans.
We'll work till about noon, and probably a bit after.
If you or your group would like to work days or early evenings other
than Saturdays, please let Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> know.
Please let Frank Bennett <mailto:FJB675 at hotmail.com> 919-851-3992 or
Bill Bussey <mailto:billbus at gte.net> 919 545-9104
know anytime if you have any questions.

*More News
*
Construction of the Chatham County section of the ATT has begun! Holmes
Contracting are working first on the section of trail between the
Chatham/Wake County line to the south, and New Hope Church Road to the
north. This section of trail is now CLOSED because it is a construction
zone. They've been cutting down a LOT of trees. *Please stay out of this
area while construction is going on.* Please read and heed all signs
related to construction in this area.
Span Builders, LLC, which is the subcontractor for the Chatham County
bridges, will start construction on the Panther Creek trestle on October
13. Still no word on whether they will be accessing this bridge via
Pittard Sears Road (shorter) or New Hope Church Road. Stay tuned...
For more information be sure to check out our TRTC/ATT News Link

The I-40 Bridge Design meeting was held at Durham City Council Chambers
at Durham City Hall on Wednesday, September 17. Here is a letter
describing the project. <http://triangletrails.org/ATTMEET08.PDF>
About fifteen trail users attended during the two hours. While we are
disappointed that more didn't attend - probably due to the early hour
and very late notice - Durham staff receive some good feedback on the
two bridge designs.
You can print out our latest ATT map *right now* at

Don't let the thumbnail fool you. This is our new color ATT map done by
Wayne Horton of Winston-Salem.
And let me take this opportunity to *Thank You* for all of your help
and support in building, cleaning and clearing the American Tobacco
Trail in 2007. Thanks to your hard work, expertise and
diligent efforts, we are making steady progress.
Thousands of trail
users are *now safely using* the sections of the trail and facilities
you have helped clear, clean and build. We get so many wonderful
comments and thanks on how well the trail looks when folks use these
facilities. These trail users are often *amazed* to find out that these
improvements were done *completely* by volunteers. Thank you for the
great work and for volunteering your valuable time to help with this
project. Know that it wouldn't be possible without the great work of
each and every one of you.
Thanks for your help and support in building the American Tobacco Trail.
Happy Trails,
