The Triangle Electric Auto Association has undertaken the conversion of a 1982 Toyota Tercel Coupe. This car has been partially converted to electric by students at Durham's Riverside HS, but the project was never completed. The vehicle now sits at Durham Technical Community College, and the TEAA has taken it on as a project. This endeavor gives EV enthusiasts a chance to get hands-on experience with EV conversion, as well as putting another EV on the road.
Workdays are scheduled twice monthly: on the first Thursday of the month from 6 to 9pm, and on the third Saturday, from 9am to 1pm. The first workday was Saturday January 16th, 9am, at the Automotive shop at Durham Technical Community College. Please join us if you are interested in learning about EV conversions. Contact the project coordinator, ShiangTai Tuan, for more information.
The next workday is Saturday March 17, 2000.
Next task is installing the motor and transmission back into the vehicle.
