BSA Troop 200 Adult Mixed Gender Activities Requiring Overnight Attendance Policy Adopted 8/ 7/2004 Amended 8/17/2004 The Troop Committee of BSA Troop 200 has developed the following policy in order to continue to provide the safest possible environment for all participants in Troop activities involving overnight attendance. This policy is in no way intended to exclude any adult from Troop activities for reasons of gender, but is intended to provide a safe and secure experience for all involved. BSA requires all adult leaders and youth to prescribe to their policy of Youth Protection, which among dealing with other issues, requires two deep leadership when dealing with youth members. We feel that this requirement shall also apply to the participation of female leaders on overnight activities. We feel that without 2 deep participation on said activities, we cannot guarantee a safe and secure environment for all participants. To achieve this mission of the Troop, we have ratified that following policy. Troop 200 will continue to accept all members, youth and adult, who meet the membership requirements set forth by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and welcome all adult members who meet these requirements, as members of the Troop. POLICY ------ BSA has stated that an individual Troop may set their policy for who can attend activities requiring overnight attendance and the following rules shall apply for Troop 200: Female adults (21+ years or older) shall only camp with BSA Troop 200 providing the target camping location supports an environment conducive for mixed gender Adult camping. The determination of whether a camping location is appropriate for mixed gender Adult camping, shall be the responsibility of the Troop Committee, or the host site activity coordinator and their decision will be final. A minimum of 2 Adult females shall attend for 100% of the camping event, not just overnight. As required of Adult males, they shall camp within the area designated for Adult leaders, not with the youth. In the case that one Adult female attends a camping event, she shall only be allowed to attend if she is accompanied by her married spouse, under the rules of North Carolina. Common law marriages, engaged couples or boyfriend/girlfriend couples, do not qualify under this Troop policy.
