Making Democracy Work

The League of Women Voters of Wake County will recognize a woman between the age of 50 and 70 who is/has been in the work force and contributed to Wake County in a meaningful way. The Making Democracy Work (MDW) Award will be presented at its annual Women’s Equality Day celebration on Tuesday, August 27, 2008. The League has an established event honoring elected women officials in Wake County.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League of Women Voters of Wake County is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to encourage the active participation of all citizens in government, to work to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

The League of Women Voters has two separate and distinct roles:

  • Voter Services/Citizen Education: We present unbiased nonpartisan information about elections, the voting process, and issues.

  • Action/Advocacy: We are also nonpartisan, but, after study, we use our positions to advocate for or against particular policies in the public interest.
