Source Force is a small grassroots effort that began more than 20 years ago because Suzanne Lewis Brown saw a distinct need in the HIV/AIDS community – giving support and dignity to those with the diseases living at or below the poverty line.
“Picnics” are held monthly and provide a day out for clients. At these events, they “shop” for free clothes, household items, and groceries. They also enjoy a hot meal and fun activities in an accepting environment free from worry. Average attendance is 50 – 60 people.
Every March, large Easter baskets are created for clients. These baskets contain a variety of practical items that many clients sorely need. Items like towels, socks, and toiletries help ease their burdens, as many lack the financial resources to purchase these items themselves. On average, 600 – 700 baskets are distributed to clients and agencies around the Triangle. Source Force does not receive any form of government subsidy or service and is operated entirely by non-salaried volunteers.
