November online now

The December 2nd RARS meeting will be the annual RARS Holiday Party. The location will be the First Alliance Church at 4400 Buffaloe Rd. The Program wil include the induction of officers for 2009 and The Encore Singers. RARS will provide drinks,  and everyone is encouraged to bring a snack to share.
RARS Membership Meetings are Moving
Forest Hills Baptist Church has grown over the last decade, and so has the demand for their meeting space. As a result there are no large rooms available for our Membership Meetings and we have been using a classroom for our meetings. After 11 months of searching for a solution, the RARS Board or Directors has decided to move future RARS membership meetings to the First Alliance Church at 4400 Buffaloe Rd. in east Raleigh. This is the same location previously announced for the RARS auction and Christmas Gathering. Here is a Google map to the location.

Monthly Dinner Moving to Perkins Restaurant.
Several members have suggested trying another location for the monthly dinner. After some discussion among those currently attending it was decided to try Perkins Restaurant for the November 11th and December 9th monthly dinners to see if it will increase participation. Perkins Restaurant is located at 2657 Appliance Ct. (on the east side of Capital Blvd. just north of the beltline). We will gather in the private dining room around 6:30.
General Classes to begin in February 2009.
RARS Education Chair, Virginia Enzor - NC4VA, announced that plans are being made for a General License Class to be conducted in February 2009. The course will consist of 3 sessions followed by a license test administered by the RARS VE Team.
The 37th RARSFest will be on April 11,2009
The RARSFest planning committee agreed to move the 2009 hamfest to a date one week earlier than originally planned due to a date conflict with the Catawba Valley (Morganton) hamfest. If you are interested in helping out with planning the 2009 hamfest please send email to John Snellen, AI4RT. Planning Committee meetings will resume in January 2009.
November 14 ARISS Operating Event at Enlow School
RARS sponsored an ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) contact with Enloe Magnet High School on Friday November 14th. Four Enloe students asked questions of astronaut Mike Fincke aboard the ISS during the 10-minute pass. You can read the Press release and listen to an MP3 Audio recording of the event thanks to our PIO - KN4AQ.
